Review: How to Pronounce Knife

Bedside Rating: 7.5/10

Genre: Literary Fiction

I’ve read a book in this style a few years back, and for the life of me I cannot remember what it was called … I do however remember that I thoroughly enjoyed it. I can’t say that I enjoyed How to Pronounce Knife as much as that one, but I did however still really enjoy it. Being a collection of short stories, this isn’t a book you get lost in. It’s not a page turner, but rather one that leaves you feeling content after each chapter. You’re happy to keep reading, or happy to put the book down for the time being. How to Pronounce Knife chronicles the immigrant experience from every angle. It tells stories of love, isolation, abandonment, racism, grief, dreams, desires, loyalty and assimilation. I loved how raw, and vulnerable each story felt. Short and to the point, I was still able to connect with each character almost instantaneously … which made me yearn to know more about them.

Would I recommend this book ? Probably. It’s something different than the usual fiction book … and me likey different! Hopefully you do too :)
