Unpacking My Suitcase
Something about writing a little bio on myself takes me back to my schooling days. Did anyone else absolutely hate writing about themselves? I mean no one knows us better than… well us, but for some reason whenever I was asked to write about myself, I just BLANKED. My head is already a cacophony of thoughts … and now I’m expected to sort them out AND put them on a piece of paper? Do I say the nice things I think of myself? The dreams I aspire to? The dark and ugly things I think.. what do you waaaant ???
For now I’ll stick to the basics, and of course, I will keep it upbeat. My name is Sasha, and I am a fashion model, ex national figure skater, certified personal trainer, kinesiology graduate, board game enthusiast, cocktail composer, food fanatic, sweatpant connoisseur and as many call it today, despite the cringe feeling the term gives me, a “wag” to a professional hockey player. The feeling I get towards the term wag is similar to some peoples affliction to the word moist. But … nevertheless … I am a wag, and this specific aspect of my being is what keeps me living out of a suitcase. Traveling the world with him to both incredible, and not so incredible places, has been one hell of an adventure. I have had to make 8 different cities in the past 6 years, home. And, if you don’t mind … I’m going to give myself a pat on the back here for a moment … I’ve gotten pretty damn good at it.
We are currently living in Yekaterinburg, a city that literally is on the border of Europe and Asia. Oh, and did I mention, it’s in Russia? Luckily with this move, I had a secret weapon in my back pocket… If my name didn’t give it away already, I come from a Russian family. Both my parents were born in Russia, and moved to Canada as young adults. They will however, forever hold FOB status in my mind.. sorry mom and dad. But don’t worry, I get to be the fish out of water living here - speaking my very broken down Russian, that gets slightly better once I’ve had a few shots of vodka.
For a few years now I’ve wanted to start a blog where I can share my life with others, as well as help those who are in similar situations. Whether you are also a wag, your work keeps you on the move, or you take an interest in all things food, beauty, wellness and travel … well then WELCOME. Often times Peter, my husband, is on the road for weeks at a time. Being half way around the world from my family and friends, with a 10 hour time difference might I add, often leaves me with zero communication with any human being for many consecutive days. Sometimes I struggle to remember what my voice sounds like … not pretty obviously, because who likes the sound of their own voice? But it still leaves me feeling very lonely. So, maybe this way, no matter the time or place, I’ll always have a little community that I can talk to and share my life with. I hope you guys are okay with that! And in advance, thank you.
xx
